The Internets Footprint

The Internet has been one of the greatest inventions when it comes to communicating with one another. The Internet in itself has been the most effective media base because it has everything in one. If you wanted to listen to the radio, that station is available on the Internet. If you wanted to watch or read the news, watch a movie or send an email, the Internet is the one quick stop for all. It has transformed form desktop to laptop, and laptop to mobile phone. As technology gets more advanced, it seems that ways to connect with the world get easier.  The reading suggests that each media has felt threatened by new types of media. I believe this is very true. Personally I watch the news on the T.V. or read it online rather than read the newspaper. To me it is easier, plus it saves money by not buying a paper and saves trees. Another example, when writing school research papers, I usually use online journals or books rather than going to a library and borrowing a physical copy of a book or journal. It has saved me time and is much easier searching for what you need.

On the other side of things, is the downside to the Internet. It has grown and destroyed people. As written in the weeks readings, piracy, plaiting CD sales, illegal online sharing have all been contributed to the Internet. I just read in the news the other day that a man was selling illegal copies of the game Modern Warfare online.  Supposedly he had “stolen” from the company who developed the game because obviously the money was not going to them, same respect for CD’s. People have found ways to receive free music either by sharing or by going to sites that offer free music. Millions of dollars were lost in sales due to one person. So in retrospect, there is always a positive and negative to everything, especially when it comes to technology.
